Recommend near Northside Homes as Investment? As a realtor, I’m pretty conservative when predicting appreciating neighborhoods to recommend. I base my recommendations on what has already happened; i.e. Oak Forest, Timbergrove, Heights, Idylwwod …all areas of strong growth because of location, cohesive neighborhoods, strong pride of ownership. I also recommend areas based what might happen; i.e. Lindale [...]

Revisiting Old Houses: 50 Years Later. My brother, sister and I took my 92 year old Mom to visit Lufkin, TX, where she grew up. I don’t remember much about Lufkin even though I visited a lot. I do remember the big old, somewhat creepy, Victorian house that my Grandma lived in though. It may [...]

I Did Several Posts on HDT Builders’ New Houston Heights Homes During Construction. These homes are at 1017A & 1017B Waverly. I showed photos of the site prep, framing, sheetrocking, etc. Well, they are finally complete. Actually, they’ve been “almost done” for a while. Final City inspections, approvals, etc., seemed to take forever. 11/16/11 Note: These homes sold [...]

New Heights Development on Studewood?…Studewood Place I just found out about Studewood Place. Until recently, I had not even looked behind the fence camouflaging the construction site at Studewood at 10th ½ St. in the Heights. Right behind my office, and I hadn’t even peeked. Too “busy” I guess. That’s probably true in many ways [...]

Garden Oaks Luxury Homes This post follows one I just did on Heights Luxury Homes. Garden Oaks is a mid-century neighborhood just north of the 610 N Loop, West of Shepherd. Great old ranch style homes on huge lots. The term luxury home is relative of course. Luxury in the Heights, or Garden Oaks would [...]

While showing new Heights homes to a client this week, the conversation centered on how the Heights has changed over the years. When I first moved to the Heights, and later started selling real estate here, the Heights never came up in the topic of luxury homes. More re-do’s were being sold than big new [...]

It was only published in their print edition, not online: House Styles in the Heights Houston Heights was started in the 1890’s. The predominant house style at that time was the Victorian. The [...]

Heights Blends Old & New (Part 1 of 2) The Houston Chronicle published an article on 01/09/11 with the title above: The following is what I provided as background information, presented in two parts: What Attracts Buyers to the Heights? The main attraction to the Heights is its old neighborhood feel. This cohesiveness comes from [...]

A Sunset Heights House For Sale – 845 Aurora St. This recently listed home has gotten rave reviews from every realtor who has shown it. A typical remodeled/renovated/expanded home has some wonderful aspects, and some quirks. “It doesn’t flow right, fixtures aren’t top notch, laminate flooring, etc.” are the usual remarks. Well, you won’t find that here. [...]
