Looking to Buy a Heights Home with Apartment?

Houston Heights homes with apartments have always been popular.  This was true in the early 1900’s when the Heights was built  and remains so today.
Uses of these Heights apartments range widely. With today’s high rents and high home prices inside the loop, it makes even more sense. Some potential uses of quarters include:

  • An income-producing apartment can greatly help with your monthly note. With monthly rents running $1.50-$2.00/SF an extra $700-$800/month income can really help with mortgage payment.
  • A guest house. Your out-of-town guests can have all the amenities of home, but aren’t under foot.
  • College-age kids, or returning kids might prefer semi-autonomous living, not under direct supervision.
  • A Mother-in-Law house might be a perfect solution if Mom is getting older and wants or needs to be near her children , although first floor apartments aren’t as easy to find.
  • A spacious away-from-all-the-noise home office.
  • An artist studio or hobby space.
  • The uses for apartments are as varied as the neighborhood itself.

I wish I could make this an actual search link instead of a list, but our HAR MLS system doesn’t allow public searches with all the parameters needed. So, the list attached is simple a list of Heights area homes with apartments or quarters. I limited the maximum price to $700K

The link  above gives you a search of all current Heights homes with Quarters/Apartments. The “Heights” includes Houston Heights, Woodland Heights, Brooke Smith and dozen of other neighborhoods between Shepherd from I-10, north to the 610 loop. The image below is a snip of the pdf.

Heights Homes with Quarters

I currently only have one Heights property with an apartment. 2906 Houston Ave is a gorgeous remodeled 2/1/1 Victorian with 1369 SF plus a 468 SF ground floor apartment. The apartment has a separate electric meter, so tenant pays own electric bill. Being a ground level apartment is rare (most are built above garages) as is having it’s own electric meter. This home is in the Woodland Heights area.
