Garden Oak Sears on N Shepherd to be Redeveloped?
Swamplot reports a tentative look by Weingarten Realty at redeveloping the old Sears store at 4000 N Shepherd.
“Oaks on Shepherd” would be an open Praire-style shopping development with restaurant, grocery store and shops.
This would transform this rather tattered looking store into a development serving all the neighborhoods around it.
I have always liked going to this Sears; there is always parking near the door, and it’s next to my gym…no fighting mall traffic.
The proposed area is called “Oaks on Shepherd” Shopping Center. “The brochure, which appears to be part of a proposal to Sears, which owns the 11.7-acre western portion of the site, says the REIT plans to partner with the retailer to turn the sleepy department store and the Pine Forest Business Park directly to its east into a “wonderfully connected and designed retail shopping destination for Garden Oaks, Oak Forest and neighborhoods around it,”
They also propose buying land to the east for residential use. If the plan does go into effect, they plan on moving Sears into a temporary building until new one is built.
This will be a benefit for Garden Oaks which is on the other side of Shepherd. Click on the link to left to learn about this booming neighborhood.
